The wave of global salmon aquaculture consolidation continued to sweep across the industry in 2006 and 2007. The Pan Fish takeover of Marine Harvest in early 2006 sparked off a takeover boom that has driven up values in the business, and created global food conglomerates out of a once-fragmented, regional industry. Today, the 10 largest salmon companies control 60 percent of the world’s production.
IntraFish’s latest Industry Report, “The world’s 30 largest salmon producers” gives you keen insight into the businesses shaping the aquaculture industry, letting you know who the winners and losers are in the sector. This year’s ranking includes not only Atlantic salmon production figures, but also production figures for all salmonid fish, including trout, coho and Chinook salmon. We have also allocated space to some of the companies that aspire to a spot on the list, but didn’t quite make the grade this year.
