At least it was't cold enough to snow, or else the record raianfall seen in Boston during the show would have been a record blizzard. The calm before the storm -- workers put finishing touches on  booths before the show floor opened to visitors. There was a big crowd at the Seafood Choices Alliance party to announce the 2010 Seafood Champion award recipients. Forty-year seafood industry institution Howard Johnson was named a Seafood Champion for his work with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to help bridge the gap between the industry and the NGO community. Ruth Salmon of the Canadian Aquaculture Association -- is there anyone with a more apt name in seafood? -- shows off some of the products from Atlantic Canada. PanaPesca was at the show promoting its new see-through packaging, which it says consumers want when so they can better see the product before they buy it. Ernie Wayland of International Marketing Specialists, sporting a new beard. Phil Heidenreich  of Packaging Products Corp. shows off company's Pantinya Tantimuratha of Grobest Frozen Foods talks about how the company uses scales from its tilapia in a collagen skin product it sells in Taiwan. The company is awaiting approval to sell it in the U.S. With the rain falling so constantly and so hard, IntraFish Editor Ben DiPietro crowds into a van for a ride across the street from the convention center to his hotel. The weather may have been annoying for people at the show, but it was a boon for taxi drivers, who did bang-up business. Another huge turnout for the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute party, one of the toughest tickets to get at the show. American Seafoods CEO Bernt Bodal (center) left his guitar home but still managed to have fun at the ASMI party.
