For many, eco-labels are synonymous with sustainable seafood.
Indeed, eco-labels schemes grab plenty of headlines and attention. The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label program, in fact, was an early pioneer in the sustainable seafood movement.
Eco-labels certainly have a place in the sustainable seafood landscape, but they are not the only solution seafood buyers and suppliers are using to ensure the seafood they buy and sell is sustainable.
In a new report just released, IntraFish Media explores sustainable seafood programs that go beyond eco-labels.
Many of these programs incorporate eco-labels from the MSC, Friend of the Sea, the Global Aquaculture Alliance and others into their schemes, but they further offer a wide range of services to help firms improve their sustainable seafood sourcing, especially for those fisheries and aquaculture operations that don’t have or can’t afford an eco-label.
