Diving and on-growing in Australia’s pearling industry

AUSTRALIA’S pearling industry is among the country’s oldest and most valuable combined fishing/aquaculture industries and it produces the world’s finest pearls from the silver-lip pearl oyster specie Pinctada maxima. FNI’s Ian Strutt met Brett McCallum, executive officer of the Pearl Producers’ Association, and Mik Burton, its safety and training officer.
