Vancouver Liberal Member of Parliament Joyce Murray has been having discussions with the non-profit conservation organization Pacific Salmon Foundation about moving ahead with the end of open netpen farming in British Columbia, according to her latest social media tweet.

Justin Trudeau's Liberal party in Canada launched its full campaign platform in September, which included a major proposed change to the country's salmon farming industry.

The plan included a move from open netpen salmon farming to closed-containment systems by 2025.

The salmon farming industry's reaction was swift -- and highly negative.

Trudeau eked out a victory in October over Conservative party opponents in a tight election, throwing up huge question marks around the fate of the British Columbia salmon farming industry.

Nova Scotian Member of Parliament (MP) Bernadette Jordan took to Twitter in November to announce that Trudeau has appointed her the new minister of fisheries, oceans, and the Canadian coast guard.
