Port Lincoln bluefin tuna industry plans: Major marketing campaign in Japan
PORT LINCOLN-based Sarin Group Fishing is owned by Croatian-born Sime (Sam) Sarin, who is one of the pioneers of the Southern bluefin tuna (SBT) catching and ranching industry in Australia. This industry now comprises some ten main companies, with Sam Sarin having founded Australian Fishing Enterprises (AFE) and expanded with the acquisition of SAMS Seafarm and KIStuna. Today, Sam Sarin controls some 2200 tonnes of the Australian SBT quota. Sarin Group has further investments in Mediterranean tuna ranching, plus interests outside the fish industry such as in housing construction and in commercial property, with Sarin Group developing the swish Port Lincoln Hotel, which opened late last year. Ian Strutt talks to Sarin Group Fishing’s group marketing manager, Peter Fare.
